waxing crescent
Moon's first curve
A waxing crescent is the phase of the moon between new moon and first quarter, when a thin sliver of the right side (in the Northern Hemisphere) appears illuminated and grows larger each night.
Waxing means increasing; crescent describes the curved shape.
