anglicize
Convert to English
To anglicize something is to make it more English in character, form, or sound.
Names are often anglicized when immigrants arrive in English-speaking countries: Giuseppe becomes Joseph.
Foreign words get anglicized spellings and pronunciations as they enter common use.
The process can be deliberate or gradual.
Also spelled anglicise in British English.
