angle brackets
HTML tag enclosures
Angle brackets are the paired punctuation marks ⟨ ⟩ or, more commonly in everyday use, the less-than and greater-than signs < > repurposed as enclosures.
In computing, angle brackets surround HTML and XML tags: <body>, </div>.
In linguistics and textual scholarship, they mark reconstructed forms or editorial insertions.
In casual writing, they sometimes indicate actions or stage directions in chat: <sighs>.
