angel of mercy
Benevolent nursing figure
An angel of mercy is someone who provides comfort, care, or relief to those who are suffering—typically a nurse, caregiver, or anyone who appears when help is desperately needed: The hospice workers were angels of mercy to our family.
The phrase can turn dark when applied to someone who kills vulnerable patients, ostensibly to end their suffering: The nurse was convicted as an angel of mercy who murdered dozens of elderly patients.
