anaphylactic
Dangerously allergic reaction
Anaphylactic describes a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
An anaphylactic response occurs when the immune system overreacts to an allergen—bee stings, peanuts, shellfish, certain medications: She went into anaphylactic shock after eating shrimp.
The reaction can cause airways to constrict, blood pressure to drop, and requires immediate treatment, typically with epinephrine.
