analog sticks

Gamepad directional thumbpads

Analog sticks are the small joysticks on video game controllers that tilt in any direction, allowing smooth, variable movement rather than the simple on-off input of directional buttons.

Most modern controllers have two—one for character movement, one for camera control.

I prefer inverted analog sticks for looking around.

Also called thumbsticks.
