ambulate

Travel on foot

Ambulate means to walk or move about, used almost exclusively in medical contexts.

A patient who can ambulate is mobile enough to walk, as opposed to being bedridden or wheelchair-bound: The patient was able to ambulate with assistance.

Outside clinical settings, the word sounds comically formal.
