post-operative
Following the operation
Post-operative describes the period or conditions following a surgical procedure.
Medical staff monitor patients for post-operative complications like infection or bleeding, and provide post-operative care instructions for recovery at home.
The term applies to anything occurring after surgery: post-operative pain, post-operative swelling, post-operative checkup.
Often shortened to post-op in casual medical contexts: The post-op recovery went smoothly.
