altar-stone
Ceremonial worship surface
An altar-stone is a flat stone slab forming the top surface of an altar, particularly in Christian churches.
In Roman Catholic tradition, it contains relics of saints and serves as the consecrated surface on which the Eucharist is celebrated.
The term also applies to prehistoric flat stones that may have served ritual purposes.
