allied powers
Joined military forces
A coalition of nations fighting together in a war.
The term applies broadly to any military alliance but is most associated with the major world wars of the twentieth century.
In World War I, the allied powers centered on France, Britain, Russia, and later the United States.
In World War II, the term describes the nations opposing the Axis powers, principally the United States, Britain, the Soviet Union, and China.
The allied powers coordinated their invasion strategy. (Capitalized Allied Powers is the formal designation for these coalitions.)
