defense pact
Agreement for security
A defense pact is a formal agreement between nations to protect each other militarily, typically obligating signatories to treat an attack on one as an attack on all.
NATO is the most prominent example.
Such agreements aim to deter aggression through collective strength: The two countries signed a defense pact in 1954.
Also spelled defence pact in British English.
