Zealandia

Mostly underwater continent

Zealandia is a mostly submerged continental mass in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, of which New Zealand and New Caledonia are the visible portions.

Geologists recognized it as Earth's eighth continent in 2017, though about 94 percent lies beneath the ocean surface.

The name derives from the Dutch province Zeeland, which also gave New Zealand its name.
