United States Capitol
Dome in Washington
The United States Capitol is the building in Washington, D.C., that houses the U.S.
Congress—the Senate in the north wing, the House of Representatives in the south.
Its distinctive dome dominates the city's skyline and appears on currency and in political imagery.
The Capitol sits at the east end of the National Mall: Protesters gathered on the Capitol steps.
Not to be confused with capital, the city that serves as seat of government.
