Union troops
Blue-clad army men
Union troops were the military forces of the United States during the American Civil War (1861–1865), fighting to preserve the federal union against the seceding Confederate states.
The term distinguishes these soldiers from Confederate troops: Union troops advanced on Richmond.
Also called Federal troops or simply the Union army.
