Theodosius I

Last unified ruler

Theodosius I was a Roman emperor who ruled from 379 to 395 CE, the last to govern both the eastern and western halves of the empire.

He made Christianity the official state religion and banned pagan worship, earning the epithet "the Great" from Christian historians.

After his death, the empire permanently split between his two sons.
