Tea Party

Anti-spending political movement

The Tea Party refers to the Boston Tea Party of 1773, when American colonists dumped British tea into the harbor to protest taxation without representation.

In contemporary politics, the Tea Party is a conservative American movement that emerged around 2009, advocating for reduced government spending, lower taxes, and strict constitutional interpretation: Tea Party candidates swept the midterm elections. (Lowercase tea party is a social gathering.)
