Tassili n'Ajjer

Tassili n'Ajjer is a mountain range and national park in southeastern Algeria, part of the Sahara Desert.

The sandstone plateau is known for thousands of prehistoric rock paintings and engravings depicting animals, humans, and hunting scenes from when the region was greener.

The name means "plateau of rivers" in Berber, reflecting its ancient climate.

The cave art at Tassili n'Ajjer rivals Lascaux in importance.
