overspill

What pours beyond

Overspill is what flows over the edge of a container, or by extension, what exceeds the capacity of any space.

In British usage, overspill often refers to population that relocates from crowded cities to surrounding areas: The new housing estate was built to accommodate London's overspill.

The word functions as both noun and modifier: overspill parking, overspill housing.
