Socratic
Philosophical questioning method
Socratic describes the method of inquiry associated with the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates.
Rather than lecturing, Socratic teaching uses probing questions to draw out ideas and expose contradictions in thinking: The professor's Socratic method kept students on their toes.
A Socratic dialogue proceeds through question and answer, leading participants to examine their assumptions.
