Skylanders is a video game franchise launched in 2011 that pioneered the toys-to-life genre, where physical figurines placed on a portal device appear as playable characters in the game.
The concept proved massively successful, spawning multiple sequels and inspiring competitors.
My kid spent all his allowance on Skylanders figures.
