genre crossover
Mixed style work
Genre crossover describes a work that blends elements from two or more distinct genres, or an artist who moves between genres.
A country singer recording a pop album attempts a crossover; a film mixing horror and comedy is a genre crossover.
The term also applies to audience appeal: The album was a crossover hit, charting in both R&B and pop.
