Romneycare

Bay State coverage

Romneycare is the informal name for Massachusetts's 2006 healthcare reform law, signed by then-Governor Mitt Romney.

The legislation mandated individual health insurance coverage and created a marketplace for purchasing plans—a model that later influenced the federal Affordable Care Act.

The term is often used in political contexts to highlight similarities between the two laws: Critics pointed out that Obamacare borrowed heavily from Romneycare.
