Pomerania
Historic Baltic duchy
Pomerania is a historical region on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, now divided between northeastern Germany and northwestern Poland.
The name derives from a Slavic word meaning "by the sea." Once a duchy and later part of Prussia, the region's borders shifted dramatically after World War II, when most of its German population was expelled and replaced by Polish settlers.
Her family traced their roots to Pomerania.
