Île de la Cité
Paris river island
Île de la Cité is a small island in the Seine at the heart of Paris, site of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the medieval origins of the city.
The name means "Island of the City" in French.
References to the île often evoke old Paris, Gothic architecture, or the geographic center of France: We walked across the bridge to the Île de la Cité.
