Nobel laureate

Stockholm ceremony honoree

A Nobel laureate is someone who has been awarded a Nobel Prize—one of the prestigious international awards given annually for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace, and economics.

The term combines Nobel (after Alfred Nobel, who established the prizes) with laureate, from the laurel wreaths bestowed on ancient champions: The university now counts three Nobel laureates among its faculty.
