Neuschwanstein Castle
Ludwig's fantasy palace
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century palace in the Bavarian Alps, built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
Its romanticized medieval architecture—dramatic towers, ornate interiors, mountain backdrop—has made it one of the most photographed buildings in Europe and a model for fairy-tale castle imagery, including the Disney castle logo: We visited Neuschwanstein on our trip through Germany.
