Nashville sound
Smooth country style
The Nashville sound is a style of country music that emerged in the late 1950s, characterized by smooth string arrangements, background vocals, and polished production that softened country's rural edges for broader pop appeal.
Producers like Chet Atkins and Owen Bradley developed the style to counter rock and roll's commercial dominance.
The approach drew criticism from traditionalists but produced crossover hits for artists like Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves.
