NATO phonetic alphabet

Alfa, Bravo, Charlie...

The NATO phonetic alphabet is a standardized set of code words representing the 26 letters of the Roman alphabet, used in radio and telephone communications to avoid confusion between similar-sounding letters.

Each letter is assigned a distinct word: Alpha for A, Bravo for B, Charlie for C, and so on through Zulu for Z.

Originally developed for military use, it is now widely employed by pilots, emergency services, and customer service representatives spelling out names or confirmation numbers: That's M as in Mike, not N as in November.
