Mr. Hyde
Potion-unleashed darker self
Mr.
Hyde is the evil alter ego of Dr.
Jekyll in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella *Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde*.
In the story, a potion transforms the respectable doctor into a murderous creature of pure malevolence.
The name has become shorthand for anyone's hidden dark side or for dramatic personality shifts: When he drinks, his Mr. Hyde comes out.
The pairing "Jekyll and Hyde" describes someone whose behavior alternates unpredictably between good and evil.
