split personality
Two minds inhabiting
Split personality describes a condition where someone seems to have two or more distinct personalities or behavioral modes.
In popular usage, it often conflates two different conditions: dissociative identity disorder (where separate identities alternate) and the Jekyll-and-Hyde phenomenon of dramatic mood or behavior shifts.
Casually, it describes anyone whose conduct varies wildly: My boss has a split personality—friendly one minute, screaming the next.
