Mormon

Salt Lake believer

A Mormon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Christian denomination founded by Joseph Smith in 1830.

The name comes from the Book of Mormon, a scripture Smith said he translated from golden plates.

Mormons are known for missionary work, abstaining from alcohol and caffeine, and historically practicing polygamy (officially discontinued in 1890).

The church prefers "Latter-day Saint," but Mormon remains widely used: Mormon missionaries knocked on our door.

As an adjective: Mormon theology, Mormon tabernacle.
