Mahomet

Arabian religious founder

Mahomet is an older English spelling of Muhammad, the prophet and founder of Islam.

The form was standard in English texts through the 19th century and persists in some historical references and place names.

Modern usage strongly favors Muhammad or Mohammed as more accurate transliterations of the Arabic.
