Siddhartha Gautama
Buddhism's original teacher
Siddhartha Gautama was an Indian prince who renounced his privileged life to seek enlightenment, becoming the Buddha—the "awakened one"—and founding the religion that bears his title.
Born in the 5th or 6th century BCE, his teachings on suffering, impermanence, and the path to liberation form the core of Buddhist philosophy.
Also called Shakyamuni Buddha.
