Jeeps is the plural of Jeep, a rugged four-wheel-drive vehicle originally designed for military use.
The brand name has become nearly generic for any similar off-road vehicle: We took the Jeeps up the mountain trail.
The name likely derives from "GP" (general purpose), though a cartoon character named Eugene the Jeep may have influenced its adoption.
