Home Alone

Left behind, unaccompanied

Home Alone is a 1990 American comedy film in which a young boy defends his house from burglars after being accidentally left behind during a family trip.

The title has become shorthand for being left unsupervised at home, especially as a child: My parents finally trusted me to be home alone at twelve.

The phrase predates the film but gained cultural resonance from it.
