H. pylori
Gastric ulcer cause
H. pylori is a bacterium that colonizes the stomach lining, causing ulcers and chronic gastritis.
Short for Helicobacter pylori.
Its discovery in the 1980s overturned the belief that ulcers were caused primarily by stress or diet: She tested positive for H. pylori and started antibiotics.
Long-term infection increases the risk of stomach cancer.
