Grub Street
Hack writers' world
Grub Street was a London street associated with impoverished hack writers and low-quality literary production in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The name became shorthand for struggling writers who churned out work for money rather than art: He dismissed the review as Grub Street hackery.
Now used figuratively for any world of desperate, underpaid writing.
