Grand Inquisitor
Chief faith enforcer
Grand Inquisitor was the title of the head of the Inquisition, the Catholic Church's institution for identifying and punishing heresy, particularly in Spain and Portugal from the 15th through 19th centuries.
The Spanish Grand Inquisitor held enormous power, answering only to the monarch, and became synonymous with religious persecution and ruthless interrogation.
In modern usage, the term is applied figuratively to anyone conducting aggressive questioning or ideological enforcement: My mother-in-law turned into the Grand Inquisitor about our finances.
