Goombas is the plural of Goomba, a term with two distinct uses.
In the Super Mario video game franchise, Goombas are the small, mushroom-shaped enemies that waddle toward the player and can be defeated by jumping on them.
Outside gaming, goomba (also spelled goombah) is Italian-American slang for a close friend or associate, particularly one connected to organized crime or Italian-American communities.
He's been my goomba since we were kids.
