Genji
Tale's shining protagonist
Genji refers primarily to *The Tale of Genji*, an 11th-century Japanese novel by Murasaki Shikibu, often called the world's first novel.
Its protagonist, Prince Genji, is a son of the emperor whose romantic pursuits and refined aesthetic sensibility define the work.
In contemporary usage, Genji often appears in gaming contexts as a character name, most notably the cyborg ninja in *Overwatch*: I'm a Genji main.
