Itasca
Minnesota state park
Itasca is a place name most associated with Lake Itasca in Minnesota, the headwaters of the Mississippi River.
The name was coined in 1832 from Latin *veritas caput* ("true head"), combining syllables to create an Indigenous-sounding word.
Itasca also names a Minnesota state park and county surrounding the lake.
