Dutch windmills
Tulip country towers
Dutch windmills are the iconic tower mills of the Netherlands, historically used to pump water from low-lying land and grind grain.
Their silhouette—a tapered brick or wooden tower with four cloth-covered blades—has become a symbol of Dutch culture and engineering.
Many survive as heritage sites, though few remain operational: We took photos of the Dutch windmills at Kinderdijk.
