Deutsche Mark

Pre-euro German currency

The Deutsche Mark was the official currency of West Germany from 1948 and unified Germany until 2002, when it was replaced by the euro.

Often called the D-Mark or DM, it became one of the world's most stable and respected currencies: The Deutsche Mark was worth about sixty cents.

Germans could exchange marks for euros until 2002, though many held onto them as keepsakes.
