David statue
Florence's famous sculpture
The David statue most often refers to Michelangelo's Renaissance marble sculpture depicting the biblical hero before his battle with Goliath, housed in Florence's Galleria dell'Accademia.
Standing over fourteen feet tall, it represents an ideal of male beauty and has become iconic in Western art.
Other notable versions exist by Donatello, Verrocchio, and Bernini, each depicting a different moment in the David and Goliath narrative.
