DNS server
Internet phone book
A DNS server translates human-readable domain names into numerical IP addresses that computers use to locate each other on networks.
When you type a web address into your browser, a DNS server looks up where that site actually lives.
DNS stands for Domain Name System—the internet's equivalent of a phone book.
The website wouldn't load because the DNS server was down.
