Crookes tube
Early discharge tube
A Crookes tube is an early experimental glass vacuum tube used in the late 19th century to study cathode rays and electrical discharge through gases.
Named after physicist William Crookes, these tubes helped establish that cathode rays were streams of particles—later identified as electrons.
The physics classroom had an antique Crookes tube on display.
