British regulars
Colonial-era royal infantry
British regulars were professional soldiers of the British Army, as distinguished from colonial militia, volunteers, or other irregular forces.
The term appears most often in accounts of the American Revolutionary War, where disciplined redcoats faced off against colonial fighters: The British regulars are coming.
Regular emphasizes their status as trained, full-time military rather than part-time or conscripted troops.
