Fixed-blade infantry rush
A bayonet charge is an infantry assault in which soldiers advance on the enemy with bayonets fixed to their rifles, intended to close distance and engage in hand-to-hand combat.
Once a standard battlefield tactic, it became increasingly rare as firearms improved.
The term now often evokes desperate or heroic last-ditch attacks: The outnumbered troops mounted a bayonet charge.
