Bible Belt

Devout Southern swath

The Bible Belt is a region of the American South and Midwest where Protestant Christianity, especially evangelical and fundamentalist denominations, dominates social and political life.

The boundaries are informal but typically include states from Texas to the Carolinas: She grew up in the Bible Belt and went to church three times a week.

The term often carries connotations of religious conservatism and cultural traditionalism.
