Bergerac
Cyrano's French hometown
Bergerac is a town in southwestern France known for its wines, particularly reds from the surrounding region.
The name is most familiar from Cyrano de Bergerac, the 17th-century French writer whose enormous nose became legendary through Edmond Rostand's 1897 play.
Bergerac now evokes romantic eloquence despite physical disadvantage—Cyrano wooed through words what his appearance couldn't win.
